This New Hublot Nespresso Watch Costs $24,000

The intersection of coffee and watches is nothing new. Over the last few years we’ve seen watches made of coffee as well as watches used to help make coffee, but we’ve never quite seen anything like this. Luxury Swiss watchmaker Hublot, the maker of fine timepieces, has teamed up with Nespresso to create a wristwatch made with used coffee grounds and pods.

As reported by Hodinkee, the Big Bang Unico Nespresso Origin is a limited-edition timepiece—only 200 will be made—from Hublot (the ‘h’ and ‘t’ are silent, I believe, as in, “u blow a lot of money on this watch). Hodinkee describes it as “a very bright shade of environmentally friendly green,” which to some might look like the color of money—the watch costs $24,000.

Touted as the “first watch to be made using recycled Nespresso aluminum capsules and coffee grounds,” per Hodinkee, the case, bezel, crown, and pusher are all made of recycled aluminum, with “28% of the aluminum composite used to make the case [coming] from actual Nespresso coffee capsules.” A whopping 4.1% of the strap is made from coffee grounds, with an added 8.2% of recycled white rubber thrown in there for good measure. Those fractions really add up! There’s even a little tiny Nespresso logo on the crown,

Permit me the briefest editorializing: If you have $24,000 to spend on an aggressively green watch made out of Nespresso pod trash, you have too much money. Frankly, I’m not sure who this watch is even for. Someone with expensive taste in wrist jewelry but the palate of an alley cat? It’s a very bizarre and represents a new height in the art of coffee greenwashing. I don’t even want to know how many pounds of coffee Nespresso could buy with $24K. It’s probably more than you think, because well, you know why.

But if you, for whatever reason, have an extra $24,100 to spend on this thing, you can purchase a Big Bang Unico Nespresso Origin of your very own via Hublot’s official website. But you better hurry, because there are only 200 of these watches, so have your assistant’s assistant act fast.
