Rui Miguel Nabeiro of Portugese coffee company Delta Cafés has been appointed chairperson of the European nonprofit International Coffee Partners (ICP).

Nabeiro, who is the CEO of Delta and its parent organization, Grupo Nabeiro, takes over the chair position from Kathrine Löfberg, the chair of the board of the Swedish coffee company Löfbergs.

First created in 2001, the ICP is a pre-competitive nonprofit coalition of eight of Europe’s largest family-owned coffee companies. In addition to Delta and Löfbergs, the group currently includes representation from Franck (Croatia), Paulig (Finland), Joh. Johannson (Norway), Lavazza (Italy), Neumann Kaffee Gruppe (Germany), and Tchibo (Germany).

According to ICP, whose members convened this week in Lisbon as the leadership change was announced, the group will move forward with a focus on what it described as the “megatrends” of youth and climate change in coffee.

The organization, which was first established in 2001, maintains an overarching focus on improving smallholder farmer livelihoods. The group is the driving force behind the ongoing Initiative for Coffee&Climate (often styled as “coffee&climate”).

“ICP has a lot to offer when it comes to knowledge and experience on the ground,” Nabeiro said in an announcement from ICP. “Cooperation with public and private actors helps us all to utilize synergies and address the challenges in the regions more efficiently.”
