“Coffee Roasting CSA: Exploring The Possibility & Promise of Community Supported Agriculture

Many Sprudge readers are no doubt familiar with the concept of Community Supported Agriculture; perhaps you are even a member of a CSA, or you know someone who has subscribed to this model for sourcing fresh vegetables and other farm-focused goods. But what happens when you apply that model to coffee? In the work of two coffee companies—Junior’s Roasted Coffee in Portland, and Anticonquista Cafe in Chicago—the CSA model offers much more than just a means of distribution. It can be a vehicle for conveying real meaning and depth of experience as part of a coffee roasting program. What is coffee, after all, if not the fruit of a farm?

In a new feature out now on Sprudge Special Projects, journalist Marco Dregni is going deep on the CSA model as it applies to our modern coffee world, and working at the active practices of these two coffee companies as a sort of case studio. It’s a thought provoking and original piece of coffee journalism, and you can read it right now on Sprudge Special Projects, supported by La Marzocco.
