It Aerates, It Oxygenates, It’s The Chemex ChemAer

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the Chemex is the perfect coffee brewer. Its design? Elegant. Its coffee? Flawless. It is poetry in glass, a caffeinated Vitruvian Man. Sure, it can be a fickle beast from time to time, but what is art without struggle? It is often thought that you can’t improve upon perfection, but that hasn’t stopped Chemex from trying with their brand new ChemAer. With a new, dimpled design, the ChemAer is a brewer and aerator to elevate your coffee (or wine!) drinking experience.

If you’re expecting a complete overhaul of a timeless piece of coffee gear, you may be a bit disappointed. The devil is in the details, and the devil here comes via two “paddles”, concave indentions in the bell of the brewer. When swirling the ChemAer, the paddles break up the gentle cascade of the coffee around bottom of the brewer, sending it splashing around, causing the coffee to better aerate and cool. It’s an idea similar to that of decanting a bottle of wine, which the ChemAer could do double duty on.

The latest member of the Chemex family was designed in collaboration with Trendglas, a German glass homewares designer, as well as Hungarian Barista Champion Attila Molnár. Per the website, “The goal was to create a product which offered an additional option for brewing coffee, one where anybody can enjoy the experience of experimenting with flavor in an elegant and easy way.”

Currently, ChemAer comes in an eight-cup and glass handle variety, capable of holding 40 ounces at one time. Currently on pre-order for $60, the ChemAer is set to begin shipping tomorrow, February 2nd.

For more information or to order a ChemAer of your aery own, visit Chemex’s official website.
